Obituary of Myriam Diaz
Please share a memory of Myriam to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Myriam Gonzalez was born May 17, 1949 in Bonito, Puerto Rico to Ismael and Sarah Gonzalez. She was the youngest of five; Ariel, Loida, Ismael, and Neftali. They moved to New York at a young age where she met and got married to Israel Diaz in 1967 and had Sarita and twins Israel "John" and Ismael "Ish". Charlene came later as a bonus. She moved to Staten Island, NY and the rest is history.
Myriam was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed word puzzles, shimming to Motown music, talking about the good ol days, but most of all she enjoyed her time with her grandchildren. She valued family time. Any small gesture she appreciated especially those phone calls. Call her anytime, she was there. She gave us her strength, resilience, bravery, wisdom, and all her love.
Myriam’s life was also full of service to others. For many years she worked at church mentoring young women in a program call the Missionettes. She worked with girls of all ages. She influenced, impacted and changed many lives for the better. She gave of her time, her energy and most importantly herself. There were many bake sales, sleepovers, field trips and award ceremonies. This was her passion and many women today can remember the times spend with her in this program. Her legacy will live on in their lives. And even when they “aged” out of the program. She was still there to help be better young wives and young mothers. She didn’t do this is out of any obligation but the purest love and desire to see the next generation of women excel and be better.
As a result of her generous spirit and spunky personality, she was loved by many. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Sarita Mejia, Israel Diaz, Ismael Diaz, and Charlene Diaz; her 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
