I remember when Uncle Butch came to New Mexico unannounced with an overnight bag. He said he wanted to surprise us. That, he did. He said he was staying because he missed his sister. We laughed and teased him about being chased and the need to lay low.
Since he was staying, he offered to help my husband with a few repairs around the house. I had 2 Rottweilers. They loved him, especially the boy dog named Stitch. Uncle Butch would leave his work clothes at my house knowing he was coming back. Stitch, my boy dog would guard his clothes and boots. You could not go near the bag. He would claw the bag closer to him and if you tried to grab it, he would hold it tighter. If you just said Uncle Butch, he would run to the door or run to the window to look for him. Stitch was obsessed. He would lick Uncle Butch all over his face. Uncle Butch would laugh and say, "It takes one dog to know another".
I'll miss you Uncle Butch.
